Clinical Evidence
Cooling that goes deeper than comfort
Cryomodulation™ is Glacial Skin’s precision cooling technology — controlled to tissue depth, built for clinical outcomes, not surface chill alone.

The challenge
How inflammation wears down the skin
Inflammation is a complex biological response to harmful stimuli such as pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants. While protective in the short term, chronic inflammation can degrade the skin over time.
Most cooling stops at the surface. Practices need cooling that can be aimed, timed, and trusted as part of a protocol, before, during, and after energy-based work, and in inflammation-forward pathways.

Activation of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines
External triggers such as UV exposure, pollution, and stress activate pro-inflammatory cytokines. These cytokines play a crucial role in the immune response by recruiting white blood cells and other immune components to sites of injury or infection.
Immune Response and Cellular Injury
The immune response is activated, leading to the release of cytokines and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). These enzymes degrade collagen and elastin, essential proteins for maintaining skin structure and elasticity.
Free Radical Production
Inflammation accelerates the production of free radicals, which cause oxidative stress and further damage to skin cells. This oxidative stress contributes to the breakdown of the skin barrier and the degradation of collagen.
Increased Melanin Production
Chronic inflammation can lead to increased melanin production, resulting in hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. This is often seen in conditions like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
Structural Degradation
Over time, inflammation causes the stratum corneum to degrade, leading to a thinner dermis and the formation of dark spots — visible as fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity.
Loss of Skin Barrier Function
Inflammation increases capillary permeability, leading to redness and swelling. This can compromise the skin barrier, making it more susceptible to environmental damage and further inflammation.
By understanding inflammation’s impact on the skin, cryomodulation aims to help break the inflammatory cycle, reduce pro-inflammatory signaling, and support anti-inflammatory responses, protecting skin from further damage.
What
What Cryomodulation™ actually is
Cryomodulation™ is the patented, proprietary method of action exclusive to Glacial® Skin technologies. Unlike traditional “cooling” that simply chills the skin’s surface, Cryomodulation™ is a clinically studied process that uses precision-controlled cooling to actively modify skin behavior. At its core, Cryomodulation™ targets the skin at a cellular level. By delivering exact, sustained temperatures to the dermis, it "modulates" (or resets) the skin’s biological responses.
Standalone or combined: pre/post-procedure cooling, in-treatment thermal protection, and protocol stacks with other aesthetic care, so Cryomodulation fits the day, not just a single visit type.
We have three different modalities that serve different purposes:
Glacial® Gloss Rx
Skin rejuvenation with precision cooling (and dermabrasion on Glacial Gloss Rx). Helps suppress inflammation, even tone, and reduce redness; typically ~30 minutes, ideal when patients want brighter, calmer, more even-looking skin.
Glacial® Glide Rx
Continuous precision cooling to help reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation, often ~10 minutes standalone, or before / during / after lasers, microneedling, dermaplaning, and injectables. Also a wellness protocol for redness, puffiness, and dullness.
Glacial® Freeze
Controlled freezing for removal of benign lesions (e.g. actinic keratoses, seborrheic keratoses, skin tags, warts) seconds per lesion, precise contact cooling with little downtime when used per IFU.

Why
Why Cryomodulation™ controlled cooling changes the protocol
Glacial® Skin's patented cooling algorithm aims at the process you mean to influence - not a blanket chill. By cooling tissue with intent, science, and control, cryomodulation helps downregulate inflammation at a cellular level. Think of Cryomodulation as a "Dimmer Switch" for the skin's inflammatory response. While traditional cooling just chills the surface, Cryomodulation is a patented, precision-controlled algorithm that changes how your skin behaves at a cellular level, supporting exfoliation and cell turnover, helping normalize melanin production, and reducing pain and swelling around procedures.
• Neutralizes Inflammation: It interrupts the "heat signals" that cause visible redness and reactivity.
• Regulates Cellular Activity: It influences how skin cells behave, shifting them from a stressed, "red alert" state to a calm, balanced state.
• Restores Equilibrium: It reduces puffiness, calms thermal heat, and supports the skin’s natural ability to recover and brighten.

Who and how
Who this is for - and how it fits the day
Built for practices whose patients show up with inflammation, redness, blemish-prone skin, photodamage, and for teams who run energy-based procedures and refuse to treat comfort as an afterthought.
• Safe for providers treating inflammatory redness in patients with acne-prone and rosacea-prone skin
• Laser and energy-based practices that want less pain, swelling, and recovery friction
• Clinics addressing photodamage, dullness, and uneven tone
• Results-focused providers who need consistent, comfortable inflammation support
• Practices whose patients expect results without long downtime
Lead with Glacial® Gloss for rejuvenation, Glacial® Glide for comfort and recovery around energy-based care, and Glacial® Freeze for benign lesion protocols - precise cooling that feels premium because it is controlled.
